Desert Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis nelsoni) - Canyonlands National Park- Utah
The desert bighorn sheep exhibits most of the same characteristics and behaviors of other sub-species of bighorns, but are unique for their adaptations for the heat and cold of the desert. Unlike most mammals, the desert bighorns body temperatures can safely fluctuate several degrees. They are also capable of going without water for extended periods of time.
